Montina Franciacorta Harvest 2024
Each year, producing high-quality wines becomes an increasingly complex and challenging task, putting the skills and tenacity of industry professionals to the test.
The 2024 harvest in Franciacorta is no exception, presenting a very complicated climatic scenario. This requires all the experience and skill of local winemakers to ensure a quality harvest.
Spring and early summer were characterized by frequent rains and below-average temperatures, conditions that initially hinted at an early harvest. However, the intense heat of July restored balance, allowing us to begin grape harvesting on August 22.
During the months of April, May, and June, winemakers had to face a feared enemy: the “Peronospora”. This fungal disease, favored by abundant rains and mild temperatures, threatened the vineyards of Franciacorta. Despite some localized damage, the overall health situation was kept under control thanks to timely and targeted interventions.
. The experience of the winemakers was crucial in protecting the vines and ensuring that the grapes reached maturity in good condition.
A positive note of the season is the introduction of the Simonit Sirch pruning method in Montina’s vineyards, which is beginning to show its benefits. This “gentle” technique focuses on preserving the health and longevity of the vines, minimizing wounds that could facilitate the onset of diseases such as “esca”. The first bunches of Pinot Noir harvested proved to be healthy and of excellent quality, an encouraging sign for the continuation of the harvest.
However, the season is still subject to potential risks from adverse weather. On Monday, August 26, Franciacorta was hit by a violent storm accompanied by hail, which damaged some vineyards. Fortunately, in Montina, the harvest is still ongoing, and the damage has been contained, but the situation is being closely monitored.
Although production is lower compared to the bountiful 2023 vintage, the quality of the grapes, where not affected by fungal diseases and hail, looks promising. We are therefore preparing for more days of intense work in the vineyard and cellar, to continue offering products that fully live up to our brand.
